Descriptions

A mountain in the Sinai Peninsula.
An important Christian pilgrimage site in late antiquity as it was believed to be the place where Moses received the ten commandments from God. Justinian erected a fortified monastic complex between 548 and 565. Gregory, patriarch of Antioch from 570 to 592, was archimandrite of this monastery prior to his accession as patriarch.7
