“Situated very close to the Great Palace, Hagia Sophia and the hippodrome, the baths of Zeuxippus were the most famous public baths of Constantinople. Throughout Late Antiquity, emperors brought statues and other renowned works of art to Constantinople, many of which were put on display in the baths of Zeuxippus. The baths were burned down in 532 during the Nika riots and rebuilt by Justinian I. Joh. Eph., EH 3.24, refers to the eastern part of the city near the seashore by the name Zeuxippus, likely because of the prominence of the baths.” 1
