In hagiography:
Elijah was the Syrian Orthodox bishop of Antioch and a convert from
the Melkite community. He was a monk from the monastery of Gubba
Barraya. He was bishop of Apamea and later Patriarch
of Antioch. He was
esteemed by Caliph Al-Walid I who allowed him to build a church.
