In hagiography: John
of Kamul was born to a pagan family, from a royal
Sasanian line. He was converted and tried to convince
Shapur his cousin not to persecute Christians.
Mar Awgin baptized him under the name of John. He lived in a cave near
Mount Gudi and performed many miracles. The
monastery of John of
Kamul in Gazarta bears his name.
