In hagiography, Marutha of Maypherqat, Bishop of Maypherqat is commemorated as a Doctor of the Church, and remembered as the grandson of a Persian Magian who converted to Christianity. His grandmother Mary built a church and a monastery where Marutha later studied. He became Bishop and built many churches and collected relics for the town of Maypherqat.
