            One of the major churches of Antioch, the church of Cassian was repeatedly restored in the 6th century and lavishly decorated by Justinian. According to Joh. Eph., EH 4.41, Damian of Alexandria attempted to consecrate a new miaphysite patriarch there in early 580, but was prevented from doing so by the Chalcedonian patriarch Gregory.
