The British Library is the national library of the United Kingdom, located in London. In the field of Syriac Studies, the collection of the British Library is noted for its large quantity of Syriac manuscripts, the majority of which were acquired in the 19th century from the monastery of Dayr al-Suryān in Egypt. Prior to 1973, the British Library was a part of the British Museum and thus the Syriac manuscripts today held by the British Library are often identified as belonging to the British Museum in earlier citations.
